Answer

A volume's security style should not change on its own.

There are 3 reasons a volume's security style could change:
  • a user modified the volume's security style
    • check the AUDIT-MLOG-TXT.GZ in autosupports for volume modify commands
  • a restore from snapshot was performed
    • check MGWD.GZ in autosupports for zapi (client application or OnCommand product) and vss (previous versions) calls
  • volume is the destination of a snapmirror relationship
    • check SNAPMIRROR-DESTINATION.XML to see if the volume is a destination or source of a snapmirror relationship
