Answer

  • Once the SSD latency monitoring feature is enabled, ONTAP will monitor SSDs for high I/O latency
  • ONTAP might fail out SSDs with persistent high I/O latency in order to mitigate aggregate-level performance issues
  • There is no system performance impact when enabling this feature.
  • The EMS event shm.threshold.highIOLatency reports high I/O latency issues with an SSD
    • syslog: Disk %s exceeds the average IO latency threshold and will be recommended for failure.
