Can I force NTP to sync in ONTAP?

Answer

No.

  • It can take a few minutes to hours to see the time change on the cluster using the 'date' command, but normally it will be almost instant.
    • Adding servers or changing the time will restart the NTP daemon and can further increase the time it takes to synchronize.
  • Confirm that the NTP servers are reachable using cluster time-service ntp status show and wait for ONTAP to perform the sync.
  • If you don't see a sync after a few hours, open a support case with NetApp Technical Support.
