ONTAP Multi-path support for NDMP tape backups

Last Updated:

Applies to

  • ONTAP 9
  • NDMP

  • ONTAP allows the support of multiple paths to tapes, media changers, and bridge router devices that support multiple ports or are part of a “fabric”.
  • A maximum of two paths can be configured from the storage system (ONTAP's cluster-wide) to access the same tape drive in a tape library
  • Data path failover during a backup application is not supported for tapes during an ongoing operation.
  • The use of (SCSI/persistent) reservations should be limited to management through the filer instead of pass-thru reservation control through 3rd Party tools.
