Applies to

  • SAN
  • VMWare
  • ESXi 4.x and later
  • Paravirtualized SCSI (PVSCSI)
  • IO intensive Applications

Answer

  • PVSCSI adapters are high-performance storage adapters that can result in greater throughput and lower CPU utilization in VMs
  • PVSCSI adapters are best for environments, especially SAN environments, where applications drive a very high amount of I/O throughput
  • Have multiple VMDK from a LUN
  • Assign separate paravirtualized SCSI adapters to each VMDK

Additional Information

  • You will need to have OS support for using Paravirtual SCSI and you can see what support it in this VMWare Support article
