What is a LIF?
Applies to
- ONTAP 9.X
- Clustered Data ONTAP 8.x
Answer
What is a LIF?
- A LIF (Logical InterFace) is a logical resource tied to a Vserver
- A NAS LIF has an IP address
- A SAN LIF has a WWPN
- A LIF is hosted by a physical network port on a node
This separation of the physical port and the LIF allows a NAS LIF to migrate non-disruptively to another physical port on node within the cluster.
