Specialty:
nas
Last Updated:

Applies to

  • ONTAP 9.10.1
  • ONTAP 9.11.1RC
  • NAS Protocols: File creation

Issue

  • Unable to create any files on a NFS volume after upgrading ONTAP to 9.10.1 and running a patch < P5 or ONTAP 9.11.1RC
    • SKTRACE.GZ log shows:
2022-05-18T22:14:54Z [26:0] IZONE_1: ialloc_hbps_best_fbn: Vol <volume>: HBPS best elem imap_fbn -1 alloc_zone_bitmasks 0 alloc_new_imap 0 waffi-id <id>

  • Due to a side effect from internal resource contention resulting from clients agressively retrying to create files, data access can potentially fully hang and other volumes can be impacted as well
  • It is possible, that LIFs can not migrate even off the affected node anymore, with this error in event log show:

cluster::> event log show
Time                Node             Severity      Event

8/10/2022 18:24:00  cluster-01      ERROR         Nblade.vifdel.longRunning: Excessive delay while deleting connections on LIF 1028, 65 connections remaining.
