CIFS share inaccessible with EMS error "secd.dns.srv.lookup.failed"

Issue

  • CIFS shares are inaccessible from Windows clients
  • EMS log shows "secd.dns.srv.lookup.failed" error message

8/02/2020 11:25:41  Node1      ERROR         secd.dns.srv.lookup.failed: DNS serverfailed to look up service (_ldap._tcp.dc._netapp.local) for vserver(SVM1) with error (Operation timed out).

8/02/2020 11:25:41  Node1      ERROR          secd.dns.server.timed.out: DNS server 10.10.10.1 did not respond to vserver=SVM1 within timeout interval

  • When performing "cifs domain discovered-servers show/reset-servers", it is unable to list the discovered domain servers
  • DNS servers aren't reachable by "ping" command from the LIF on the SVM
::> network ping -vserver <SVM1> -lif <lif1>  -destination <DNS>
no answer from <DNS>
