Applies to

  • Metrocluster IP configuration
  • Cisco Nexus C9336C-FX2

Issue

  • MetroCluster switches intermittently disappear from ONTAP, resulting in empty tables when running the following commands:

::*> system switch ethernet show
This table is currently empty.

::*> system switch ethernet show-all
This table is currently empty.

  • Additionally, the following health alerts are triggered on affected nodes (example output):

Node: Node-01
Alert ID: ClusterSwitchlessConfig_Alert
Severity: Major
Probable Cause: No cluster switch is detected and the switchless option is not enabled.

Node: Node-01
Alert ID: SwitchInfoUpdateFailure_Alert
Resource: DCH-MCS-B1(FDO26380BQ1)
Severity: Major
Probable Cause: Information from the Ethernet switch is no longer being updated.

  • The network device-discovery show command reveals that the switches are visible via CDP/LLDP, but they do not appear in the ONTAP internal switch tables.
