  • ONTAP MetroCluster

Answer

Error 1: The peer cluster was unreachable during the MetroCluster switchover/switchback operation. This can happen due to network issues, cluster state, or configuration problems. The simulation command does not always detect actual reachability problems that occur during a live operation.
Error 2: The required cluster peer relationships were not configured on the remote cluster, preventing the switchover simulation from completing successfully.

  • Manually recover Vserver peer relationships by re-establishing communication between the clusters.
  • Ensure both clusters are online and reachable over the management network.
  • Use ONTAP commands such as cluster peer show and vserver peer show to verify and repair peering status.

Additional Information

  • If simulation does not report errors, always verify cluster peer status manually before performing switchover/switchback.
  • Use cluster peer ping and cluster peer show to check connectivity.
  • Create the missing cluster peer relationships on the remote cluster
  • Run cluster peer create on both clusters for all required peers.
  • Verify peer status using cluster peer show.
  • Re-run the switchover simulation after confirming peering is healthy.
