Answer

Yes - configuring the Metrocluster switches to forward messages to an external syslog server should not interfere with the NetApp configuration.
To configure this, follow the switch manufacturer's documentation for setup

It is still recommended to have ONTAP also configured for switch monitoring as this will capture and generate Autosupports if a warning or critical alert is received.
