Windows iSCSI path loss during ONTAP multi-hop upgrade
Applies to
- ONTAP 9
- Windows Server 2016
Issue
- During a multi-hop ONTAP upgrade (ONTAP 9.7 → ONTAP 9.8 → ONTAP 9.11.1), Windows clients connected via iSCSI experienced simultaneous loss of all MPIO paths.
- After node failover/giveback and LIF
down/up, only one iSCSI path recovered automatically. - Full redundancy was restored only after a Windows host reboot.
- Windows event logs showed
disk removalanddelayed writeerrors. - ONTAP ems logs (
iscsi.notice) for affected initiator IQNs appeared with delay compared to other clients.
