Answer

  • Example:
    • ESXi host shows LUN used is around 3.9TB
    • The volume used space is just 1.9TB
Filesystem              kbytes       used      avail capacity  Mounted on
/vol/Lun_2/         53687091200 1880538864 24748859024       4%  /vol/Lun_2/
/vol/Lun_2/.snapshot          0          0          0       0%  /vol/Lun_2/.snapshot
  • When enabling volume efficiency, saving more space for storage volume.

Filesystem       used total-saved %total-saved deduplicated %deduplicated compressed  %compressed  vbn zero    %vbn zero
/vol/Lun_2/ 1880538864 2710438976          59%   2213897396           48%  496541580          11% 292142452           6%

  • So client shows LUN used size is larger than storage the volume used size.
