Applies to

  • Ontap 9
  • iSCSI
  • Oracle ASM (Automatic Storage Management) environments

Issue

  • Space is not being reclaimed on a LUN used by Oracle ASM, even though space-allocation is enabled and the LUN is online.
  • Data was deleted from the Oracle host, but ONTAP still shows that space has not been reclaimed on the LUN.
  • Host-side validation on the Oracle ASM device shows "Unmap command not implemented."
  • SCSI UNMAP is not being issued or passed from the host stack to ONTAP for this ASM LUN.
  • Because UNMAP is not available on the active ASM multipath device, ONTAP cannot reclaim freed blocks through host-driven thin reclamation in the current configuration.
