OLVM VM paused during controller failover

Issue

  • During an ONTAP upgrade (controller failover/reboot), VMs using Direct Attach/Direct LUN on OLVM hosts entered a paused state.

            Error message “VM has been paused due to a storage I/O error”

  • Multipath connectivity was in place; expectation was that multipath failover would prevent VM pause.
  • VM auto-resume was configured but manual intervention was required to resume affected VMs.
