Is it recommended to have ISCSI and NFS configuration on same link

Answer

  • Yes, iSCSI and NFS can be configured over same 10 Gb port or faster links.  
    • It is not recommended to configure iSCSI and NFS over the same 1Gb port links for a production environment.
    • It is recommended to use LACP 
  • Here are some considerations:
    • It can create unnecessary load on the link as same link will be used for both NFS and ISCSI traffic.
    • Additionally, if that link goes faulty , not just ISCSI but also NFS clients would get affected at same time.
      • MPIO will allow ISCSI traffic to fail over to another LIF and lif failover will take care of the NFS traffic.
      • Note: ONTAP does not allow a single LIF for both ISCSI and NFS.
