Is it recommended to have ISCSI and NFS configuration on same link
Applies to
- ONTAP 9
- NFS
- ISCSI
Answer
- Yes, iSCSI and NFS can be configured over same 10 Gb port or faster links.
- It is not recommended to configure iSCSI and NFS over the same 1Gb port links for a production environment.
- It is recommended to use LACP
- Here are some considerations:
- It can create unnecessary load on the link as same link will be used for both NFS and ISCSI traffic.
- Additionally, if that link goes faulty , not just ISCSI but also NFS clients would get affected at same time.
- MPIO will allow ISCSI traffic to fail over to another LIF and lif failover will take care of the NFS traffic.
- Note: ONTAP does not allow a single LIF for both ISCSI and NFS.
