df command does not work properly against SMB3 mount

Applies to

  • ONTAP 9
  • CIFS / SMB (at least version 3.0)
  • df command
  • Linux client
  • Nested path, not root of share, is mounted on the client

Issue

  • A Linux client running the df command against a CIFS mount either shows zero values for Size / Used / Avail, or the output for the CIFS mount is entirely absent, depending on the arguments supplied to the command
  • Actual access to the CIFS mount path is not impacted, though attempting to access the root directory in the share fails
