Will enabling NFSv4 be disruptive to existing NFSv3 connections?
Applies to
- ONTAP 9
- NFS
Answer
Enabling NFSv4 is not inherently disruptive, and has no impact to existing NFS connections. However it may affect CIFS connections please see Additional Information below.
Additional Information
- NFS clients will attempt the most recent version of NFS, unless a version is explicitly selected
- Clients may experience a variety of issues if NFSv4.x is selected and was not configured properly
- Consult TR-4067's NFSv4.x Considerations section for more information
- The section discusses the differences between NFSv3 and NFSv4
- Some differences in behavior may require additional planning
- CIFS clients accessing a unix security style volume with NFSv4 ACLs may be affected due to the details in this KB: File created by CIFS users with an inherited NFSv4 ACL cannot be modified by the same user
