Applies to

  • CIFS
  • SMB2/3
  • UNIX security style volume/qtree with NFSv4 ACLs

Answer

  • When a Windows client opens the security tab in file properties, ONTAP will check for the presence of any NFSv4 ACLs on the file.
  • If NFSv4 ACLs are present, the ONTAP CIFS server will return an error " STATUS_NOT_SUPPORTED" to the client whenever the client is trying to list the permissions from the security tab.
  • The Windows file explorer translates this into the error: "The requested security information is either unavailable or can't be displayed"

  • This is an expected behaviour

Additional Information

  • See Bug 928026 for details
  • The bug information applies to both SMB2 and SMB3
  • SMB3 is an extension to SMB2
