Why are CIFS share permissions different between File Explorer and System Manager?

Answer

  • Permissions viewed in File explorer (via the security tab in the properties) show the permissions at the file/folder level
  • Permissions viewed in System Manager for the share reflect a different set of "share permissions"
  • Both permissions are applied when a user accesses data on a share
  • If there's a conflict between the permissions, the user will be granted the most restrictive access between the two
