Applies to

  • ONTAP 9
  • Server Message Block (SMB 3.x)
  • Scale-Out

Answer

Scale-Out is always active in SMB 3.x environments, there are scenarios where it may not function as expected:

  • In Hyper-V environments, improper configuration of the Witness protocol or DataLIF placement can prevent clients from reconnecting properly during failover.
  • In MPIO configurations, using the “Round Robin with Subset” policy may cause temporary I/O interruptions during node failures. In such cases, the “Failover Only” policy may be more appropriate.
