VMWARE Virtual Machines  went offline during upgrade

Issue

  • During an ONTAP upgrade,  where VM's reside in datastore connected to Vol-x , the VM sessions were suspended.
  • There were no datastore connectivity disruptions - datastores use NFS 4.1 to connect to storage
  • There were no real or apparent issues pointing to NFS communications issues
  • However, the VM sessions hosted in Volx seem to have been suspended during the LIF migration; customer had to reboot the VMs to workaround the suspension event.
