Users get "windows error code 59, An unexpected network error occurred" while accessing CIFS share

Issue

  • Multiple uers get "windows error code 59, network error/I/O" when accessing CIFS share:

  • Windows client is unable to maintain connection to CIFS/SMB share and notice error  A network connection was disconnected on Event viewer:EVENTVIEWER.jpg
  • Windows event viewer reports also error about SMB multichannel:

  • May notice below wrror in sktrace logs:
NBLADE_Chk:  n0x8710f0:src/Protocols/Cifs/Support/Smb2Credits.cpp:405 rt=1171
rt=1171  RESULT_ERROR_CIFS_SMB_CREDITS_MAX_MID_RANGE_HIT
  • In the filer trace, we see :
    • In frame 28353, client sends one encrypted packet in SMB2 session 0x1bf1000001aa3f17
    • In frame 28354, client sends one encrypted packet in a different SMB2 session 0x1bf1000001aa3f16
    • In frame 28355 ONTAP sends ACK and after that in frame 28356 ONTAP sends RST to client

  • In the client trace, we do not see the SMB2 sessions 0x1bf1000001aa3f17 and 0x1bf1000001aa3f16:
