Users from trusted domains lose access to CIFS via short name (not FQDN)

  • ONTAP 9

  • Previously reachable domain controllers have recently become unreachable

Issue

  • If an SVM loses the ability to reach DCs, the ability of accounts from trusted domains to access CIFS can be impacted even if clients from the same domain are still able to access CIFS on the SVM
  • This can be specific to just the short name of the server, access via the fully qualified domain name may be unaffected
