Applies to

  • ONTAP 9
  • Upgrade
  • Broadcast domains
  • LIF migration

Issue

  • When attempting to upgrade ONTAP, the upgrade is paused and the following error is observed:

Wed May 03 06:16:00 -0700 [cluster-01: upgrademgr: upgrademgr.update.pausedErr:error]: The automated update of the cluster has been paused due to the following reason:  Node "cluster-02": Error: {Failed to migrate data LIFs from node "cluster-01".}, Action: {Migrate all of the data LIFs using the "network interface migrate-all -node cluster-01" command.}.

  • The corresponding port on the other node(s) in the cluster is/are not in the same broadcast domain as one or more of the LIFs' home ports on the indicated node
  • For example, if the cluster management LIF is on the e0M port on node 1 but the e0M port on node 2 is in a different broadcast domain than the port on node 1, migrating the LIF between e0M ports may fail
