Unable to read or write to a CIFS share even when expecting valid permissions

Issue

  • When a client attempts to read from a CIFS share, access is denied due insufficient permissions
  • Sufficient permissions are expected, and may even be observed for other clients running similar workloads/applications
  • A security trace show that the impacted Windows client tries to access the share with a NULL user and not with valid credentials:
