Unable to authenticate with a CIFS client to an NTFS volume with the error: Failed to authenticate user. Reason: "SecD Error: Name mapping does not exist".

Issue

  • Unable to authenticate with a CIFS client to an NTFS volume,
  • File Explorer navigates to \\lif_ip, gets a Windows credential prompt, user inputs credentials and gets error: Logon failure: unknown user name or bad password.
  • EMS contains error: 
  • Failed to authenticate user. Reason: "SecD Error: Name mapping does not exist".
  • vserver access-check authentication show-creds encounters the same error
