Unable to Write to Newly Created CIFS Share Subfolder

Issue

After creating a new CIFS share on a subfolder of an existing share, users are able to browse the new share but cannot save files to it. The users’ AD group is present in NTFS permissions and was granted Full Control for testing, but write attempts still fail.

Relevant Log Output / Error:

  • Windows error: “You need permission to perform this action” when saving a file.
  • ONTAP CLI:
    Cluster1::*>show-effective-permissions -vserver svm1 -win-user-name user -path /NAS/share/folder1/data -share-name share2(vserver security file-directory show-effective-permissions)Error: show failed: No such file or directory
  • Security trace indicates permission denied at the share level.
