"The folder (FOLDER) can’t be opened because you don’t have permission to see its contents." on MacOS SMB clients
Applies to
- ONTAP 9
- MacOS SMB client
Issue
- Sporadic and or inconsistent permission denied
- When using MacOS Finder to browse a CIFS share, sporadic and temporary display of a red circle containing a white dash / minus symbol (sometimes called stopsign) occurs on some displayed objects
- If the object is a folder, and you attempt to open the folder, you may receive the following message:
"The folder <folder name> can’t be opened because you don’t have permission to see its contents."
- This is only a temporary failure. Refreshing or revisiting the folder commonly alleviates the symbol signifying limited permission and can allow traversal of the folder previously indicated as unopenable
- Files may report locked in Mac OS
- Slow performance is seen, but not from ONTAP
