Applies to

  • ONTAP 9
  • MacOS SMB client

Issue

  • Sporadic and or inconsistent permission denied
  • When using MacOS Finder to browse a CIFS share, sporadic and temporary display of a red circle containing a white dash / minus symbol (sometimes called stopsign) occurs on some displayed objects
    • User uploaded file
    • If the object is a folder, and you attempt to open the folder, you may receive the following message:
    • "The folder <folder name> can’t be opened because you don’t have permission to see its contents."
    • This is only a temporary failure. Refreshing or revisiting the folder commonly alleviates the symbol signifying limited permission and can allow traversal of the folder previously indicated as unopenable
  • Files may report locked in Mac OS
  • Slow performance is seen, but not from ONTAP
