Slow NFS performance when client makes small writes
Applies to
- ONTAP 9
- NFSv3 protocol
Issue
- Clients hosting applications mounting via NFSv3 experience degraded performance resulting in application-level errors and job failures.
- Packet traces show many small (8-byte) writes against different file handles and long client-side delays where ONTAP spends the majority of the time waiting on the client for new NFS calls.
- QoS statistics and performance archives show no storage side or networking bottlenecks.
