Applies to

  • ONTAP 9
  • CIFS
  • Environment using WAN

Issue

  • Users observe significantly slower file copy speeds when transferring data from a NetApp CIFS/SMB share to remote sites over a high-latency WAN, while local site transfers remain fast.
  • Local site copy speeds are high (~200Mbps) and remote site copy speeds are much slower (~45 Mbps)
  • ONTAP qos latency for affected volume is consistently low. (~3 ms)
