Samba mount hangs on the Linux client during the write operation due to MTU mismatch

Issue

  • Linux client goes into a hung state while trying to save an edited file on the CIFS mount.
  • df -h also hangs. 
  • Listing directory contents or reading files do not cause the file system to hang. 
  • The client and storage are set to use MSS 8960 (MTU 9000).
