File Visibility Issues Between RHEL and Windows Due to NFS/CIFS Metadata and SMB3 Cache Conflicts on ONTAP 9

Issue

  • A discrepancy was observed between data written from the RHEL side and data visible from Windows.
  • Upon inquiry to Microsoft, it was explained that Windows was displaying cached data from SMB3.
  • After setting the SMB3 cache size to zero, error files could no longer be found raises when trying to open file.
  • STATUS_FILE_DELETED can be observed from packet trace during file access fails.
