ONTAP 9 experiences a panic: "page fault (supervisor read data, page not present)"

Last Updated:

Applies to

  • ONTAP 9
  • Linux NFSv4 clients with kernel version 4.10 or higher

When a Linux client running kernel > 4.10 is accessing data over NFSv4, with other NFSv4 client platforms accessing the same files, the compounding used by newer kernels can invoke a panic in ONTAP as seen below:

PANIC: page fault (supervisor read data, page not present) on VA 0xf8 cs:rip 0x20:0xffffffff9921ac78 rflags 0x10246 in process NwkThd_02 on release 9.x
