Issue

  • NFS user gets Permission denied when accessing a directory over NFSv4
       user1@host1:/vol1$ cd dir1/
     bash: cd: dir1/: Permission denied
  • The directory has an explicit NFSv4 group ACE configured
root@host1:/home/localroot# nfs4_getfacl /vol1/dir1/
# file: /vol1/dir1/
A:g:g1@ntap.local:rwaDxtTnNcCy
A::OWNER@:rwaDxtTnNcCy
A:g:GROUP@:rxtncy
D::EVERYONE@:rxtncy
  • ONTAP getxxbyyy shows the UNIX user is a member of the configured ACE group
::*> vserver services name-service getxxbyyy getgrlist -node node1 -vserver svm1 -username user1 -use-cache false -show-source true
Source used for lookup: Unknown
pw_name: user1
Groups: 8668 8668 8671 8682
  • NFS client id command displays the UNIX user missing the ACE group
user1@host1:/dir1$ id
uid=5600(user1) gid=8668(gs1) groups=8668(gs1),8671(g2)
  • ONTAP show-effective-permissions shows the UNIX user has sufficient permission on the directory
