Issue

  • NFS clients intermittently lose connectivity to ONTAP NFS shares when their traffic traverses a firewall, while clients not traversing the firewall remain unaffected.
  • Observed Log Output from affected client
kernel: [15631339.751231] nfs: server linux.server.net not responding, still trying
kernel: [15637723.949342] nfs: server linux.server.net not responding, still trying
kernel: [15638987.579334] nfs: server linux.server.net not responding, still trying
  • Only NFS clients routed through a firewall are affected.
  • Other NFS clients in the same export policy and subnet, but not traversing the firewall, remain stable.
  • Packet traces show no SYN packets or evidence of half-open TCP connections.
