Issue

  • Creating a CIFS server, some user mapping operations and other LDAP reliant calls fail due to LDAP client security requirements
  • Examples of these errors:
    • LDAP Error: Strong authentication is required
    • Error: Strong(er) authentication required
  • Below is an example of a 'cifs setup' failing due to LDAP client security requirements:

Error: Failed to create CIFS server. Reason: Failed to create the Active Directory machine account
"VSERVERNAME". Reason: LDAP Error: Strong authentication is required.
Error: Machine account creation procedure failed
[ 0 ms] Trying to create machine account 'VSERVERNAME' in domain 'DOMAINAME’ for virtual server 'VSERVERNAME'
[ 30] Found XX domain controllers through DNS
[ 35] Connecting to LDAP (Active Directory) server XXXX (X.X.X.X) as name@domain.com
**[ 36] FAILURE: 'CifsServer' configuration not available
[ 82] Unable to connect to XXXX through the X.X.X.X interface (Error: Strong(er) authentication required)
