Is there a way to prevent that a file that starts with ~$ is created when opening an MS Office file?

It cannot be controlled by ONTAP. 

  • Those $~ files are created by Microsoft Office products, not ONTAP. 
  • Please contact Microsoft for assistance with Microsoft Office products' options for temporary files.
