Is it possible to have an Active Directory (AD) user write data to a CIFS server of a Storage Virtual Machine (SVM) configured in workgroup mode?

Answer

  • The CIFS server of an SVM configured in workgroup mode does not participate in AD, so it cannot directly use AD's authentication function.
  • Therefore, it is basically not possible to write data directly using AD user credentials.
  • To access the SVM shares, create a local account on the SVM with the same username (and password) as the AD username.
