How to collect a Perfstat7 in Unix/Linux
Applies to
- Data ONTAP 8 7-Mode
- Data ONTAP 7 and earlier
Description
An SSH public/private key pair is to be set on the storage system and the host to collect a perfstat on a Linux/UNIX host from a storage system using SSH. It is required to generate an SSH public/private key pair on the host and then place the public key in the storage system’s root user-authorized keys
file
Note: The private key is not copied over.
- If the user has a licensed NFS: The procedure described in this article can be performed from a host by using an NFS mount to the storage system’s root dir (vol0).
- If the user does not have a licensed NFS then they can use wrfile and ndmpcopy to manually copy the keyfile
Note:
Besides the perfstat, these instructions can be used for any operation that might require a passwordless SSH.
The below instructions utilize Perfstat7, which is for Data ONTAP (7-Mode) prior to Data ONTAP 8.2. The tool can be found here.
For Perfstat8/clustered Data ONTAP instructions for Data ONTAP (7-Mode) 8.2+ or clustered Data ONTAP, read KB: Perfstat collection methods omnibus.
