How to troubleshoot intermittent NFS connectivity problems

Description

  • During intermittent NFS access issues, often only the client logs related messages, but ONTAP does not.
    • client OS /var/log/messages

    • When did this problem first start?
    • Is the problem specific to
      • remote clients?
      • local clients?
      • all clients?
    • What version of NFS protocols are affected?
    • How is this storage system connected to the network?
      • Is the storage system using a Gigabit Ethernet port?
      • Is the client/server connected via Gigabit or 100Base-T?
    • Is this problem constantly occurring or only at certain times?
    • There was an activity, even not directly related to the filer?
