How to control access to snapshots and previous versions for CIFS clients

Description

  • Historical versions of files can be located and accessed from clients primarily via two methods:
    • Via the Previous Versions tab in Windows Files Explorer
    • Via the .snapshot folder (displayed as ~snapshot to SMB clients)

WARNING

Both processes allow users the opportunity to potential overwrite pertinent production data with outdated versions of files, it may be desirable to control access to these features for users in an environment to avoid accidental erasure of data
