How to break locks via ONTAP CLI
Applies to
- ONTAP 9
- NAS
Description
- This document details how to break locks via ONTAP CLI
- Before you break locks, be aware that
- Breaking file locks can cause applications to become unsynchronized and might lead to data corruption
- ONTAP breaks only SMB (CIFS) protocol file locks.
- ONTAP does not remove application or database logical locks (for example, SQL Server row/table locks, application-internal lock files). Those must be cleared from the application.
- This article covers SMB locks only. Procedures for Network File System (NFS) differ.
- Breaking a file lock on a volume that is being accessed by a FlexCache requires additional consideration
You must take the volume offline on the FlexCache to reestablish proper delegation synchronization between the origin and the cache.
