Answer

  • There are no options in ONTAP to enforce either UDP or TCP exclusively for DNS queries

Additional Information

  • For more information, see RFC 1035, section 2.3.4 and 4.2.1
  • ONTAP will intially use UDP for all DNS queries
    • If the response exceeds the maximum window size of UDP(512 bytes), ONTAP will then retry with TCP
