Applies to

  • NetApp AFF
  • NetApp ONTAP 9.16.1P11
  • OPSWAT MetaDefender (various versions, including 4.4.0 and 4.5.1)
  • CIFS/SMB protocol

Issue

  • File operations (rename, copy, open) on CIFS shares with Vscan enabled experience significant latency and fail with Windows error 0x80070079 (semaphore timeout period has expired)
  • File operations succeed when Vscan is disabled
  • ONTAP QoS statistics show latency is isolated to the AVSCAN layer
  • MetaDefender dashboard confirms files are scanned successfully, but under concurrent operations, scan requests queue up, causing cumulative latency spikes from 700ms to over 30 seconds, leading to client timeouts.
  • No issues seen on Ontap end and configuration remained correct.
