EMS Nblade.nfsConnResetAndClose Errors When Rubrik Scans SMB-only SVMs
Applies to
- NetApp ONTAP 9.x (e.g., 9.16.1P7)
- AFF-A700 and similar ONTAP hardware platforms
- Environments using Rubrik NAS Discover or similar backup solutions
- SVMs (Storage Virtual Machines) configured for SMB/CIFS only (no NFS protocol enabled)
Issue
Customers report repeated NFS connectivity failures and alert noise when Rubrik backup appliances attempt NAS discovery or NFS connectivity checks against NetApp SVMs that are configured for SMB/CIFS only (i.e., do not have NFS enabled). This results in:
- Rubrik job logs:
Unable to connect to 10.10.1.79:2049, java.net.ConnectException: Connection refused
- NetApp EMS logs:
Nblade.nfsConnResetAndClose: Shutting down connection with the client. Vserver ID is <id>; network data protocol is portmap, RpcXid 0x8e622ec8; client IP address:port is 10.10.1.15:735. local IP address is 10.10.1.79; reason is RpcBindProcGetAddrError-RESULT_ERROR_GENERAL_ENTRY_NOT_FOUND.
- No actual data access failures, outages, or user impact reported; impact is limited to alert/log noise.
