Disconnections during Password Change Events

Issue

  • Intermittent disconnection issues were observed on the SMB share used as a File Share Witness for Microsoft Windows Failover Clusters
  • During the disconnection, Windows cluster nodes would failover to another node reported events such as:
    • Event ID 1564: “File share witness resource ‘FileShareWitness’ failed to arbitrate for the file share…”
    • Event ID 1069: “Cluster resource ‘FileShareWitness’ of type ‘File Share Witness’ in clustered role ‘Cluster Group’ failed.”
    • Event ID 1205, 1254: Clustered role failed to come online or offline.

      Based on the failure policies for the resource and role, the cluster service may try to bring the resource online on this node or move the group to another node of the cluster and then restart it.  Check the resource and group state using Failover Cluster Manager or the Get-ClusterResource Windows PowerShell cmdlet.
