DNS timeout alerts due to ARP delays

Issue

  • ONTAP clusters may report recurring DNS server timeout events, even when DNS servers are reachable.
  • The following EMS log is observed:
    [NodeA:mgwd:dns.server.timed.out:error]: DNS server 10.2xx.1x.94 did not respond to vserver=svm1 within timeout interval.
  • Packet trace analysis shows a 3-second delay between the ARP request and response when the ONTAP cluster attempts to reach the DNS server.
