Commvault intermittent Access Denied errors accessing CIFS shares

Issue

  • Commvault backup jobs intermittently fail with "Access Denied" errors when attempting to delete or manage files on certain CIFS shares
  • The problem is observed primarily on newly added virtual Media Agents, while direct-attached (physical) Media Agents do not experience the issue
Symptoms and Log Output:
  • Commvault job logs: (Permission denied) - Open failed.
Windows Event Viewer:
LogName: Microsoft-Windows-SmbClient/Security
EventID: 31013
Description: The signing validation failed. Error: {StillBusy} The specified I/O request packet (IRP) cannot be disposed of because the I/O operation is not complete.
ONTAP logs:
[secd:secd_rpc_authRequest_blocked_1:alert]: params: {'clientIP':'192.168.1.1','userName':'Commvault_User','domain':'Domain1','vserverName':'vserver_name'}
