CIFS Share folder missing without any audit logs

Issue

  • A subfolder named “folder-xyz” (approximately 500–700GB) within the “Automation” CIFS share (\\<redacted_ip>\projects\Project1\2.LiveProjects) became missing and was not visible to users

  • The folder was accessed only via CIFS; no recent changes or maintenance were performed prior to the issue.

  • Auditing was enabled at the SVM level, but no deletion activity was captured
